Happy December! Here we are, the last month of 2011. Time for Christmas shopping and holiday parties. Whether you have one already in your closet or you're shopping for a new one this season, the little black dress goes a long way. This go-to staple gets dressed up this time of year and in 2011 with lace and blinged-out sequins.

Add a little OFINA to the mix and you've got a perfect combination of classic (little black dress) meets a modern edge (mixed metal dangle earrings here and here). Go ahead take your sexy to the next level without overdoing it. Because we all know you make this look easy.

Seattle Thread Show

story of my life. don't get me wrong, i love what i do. But i guess that's the dilemma, the double edged sword of loving what i do that i tend to not make time for my personal life. sigh.

However, there are a few times when my work allows me to combine both the biz and pleasure. My trip this past weekend to the Thread Show in Seattle was just that. Seattle is one of my fave cities because it's the perfect combination of my hometown, Los Angeles and my current home, San Francisco. I especially love Seattle this time of year when the foliage makes its fall transition. The leaves are just gorgeous.

I paid a visit to Ballard, a cute little town filled with cool shops like Venue Ballard and Jax Joon. I copped this beautiful necklace made with vintage kimono fabric by Sazanska, from Venue (see photo below). And really, really wanted to take home these succulent plants in vintage vases from Jax Joon but there was no way I could bring those on the plane home, darn security! At least I was able to take the sign above to keep me in check!

Now for the Thread Show! Here's a photo of me at the OFINA booth from Thread Show's Facebook page. As always, it was a great, successful show. Better yet, I was also able to pick up 2 new designers for Azil!

How to: Clean your OFINA jewelry

We here at OFINA pride ourselves in providing jewelry made from high quality metals and stones. As in any investment, your jewelry requires care. We have a quick list of do's and don'ts on our website, listed below:

DO clean your jewelry occasionally using a cleaner. For stones, a soft polishing cloth is preferred as cleaners may be too harsh and cause some color damage.

For cleaners, we like Connoisseurs Jewelry Cleaner:

DO clean your goldfilled jewelry regularly using a little bit of warm water and a soft cloth to dry and shine after.

DO keep your jewelry in an airtight plastic baggie when not in use. Your OFINA jewelry comes with one.

DO keep sterling silver pieces out of damp, humid air.

DON'T leave jewelry in direct sunlight as gems will fade.

Lastly, OFINA provides the finishing touch to every outfit. DO make sure your OFINA jewelry is the last item you put on, on your way out. Hairspray, perfume, lotions and other hair and body products may aid in damaging your jewelry.

As we prepare for our next event this weekend at the Silverlake Jubilee, just wanted to share some shots from UniqueLA a couple weeks ago.

One of the coolest things about OFINA at events is the time we get to spend with other designer/friends! Like my friend of four years, Amy Kathryn shown here with her eco-friendly line of handbags!

There were also some great finds (shown clockwise from rt) from:

Amy Tangerine - Whose patchwork tees I fell in love with, especially the "I heart SF" one!
Kauzbots - My neighbor at UniqueLA creates these delightful robots who are committed to a cause! Each robot purchased Kauzbots donates a percentage of the sale to the cause. I bought a 'bot for my niece with monies going to pediatric cancer.

Speaking of 'bots, OFINA has something under wraps at the moment that we can't wait to show you, stay tuned!

Ex Libris Anonymous - Painstakingly scours the world in search of good looking (mostly vintage) hardcover books. These are then lovingly deconstructed, pages from the text retained, and the whole book is rebounded, as thoughtful, inexpensive, one of a kind journals, sweet! Loved how their booth was covered with old library checkout cards!!

Lastly, Truck Stop Envy where I purchased their LA tank! Love this tank because it represents the Angeleno in me and my love of music! If you look real close, you can see the "LA" letters are made from concert tix, very cool!

Loving all the creativity that is out there these days! Particularly loving our customers who came through and copped these finds!

For one, her style emulates a sweet balance of simplicity, sophistication and modern style that we love! She also resides in our 'hood of San Francisco, which makes us gush over her daily outfit photos with SF as her background, woo hoo!

Thread Show San Francisco

It's been a minute that we've posted on our blog but we're definitely trying to ramp up and provide you with more updates and happenings with OFINA!

The past couple months have been a whirlwind of events and shows which are always a great opportunity to connect with customers and share our newest creations. This past weekend had us at home base, San Francisco with Thread Show at the Metreon. In case you weren't able to cruise by here's what you missed:

Fortunately the weather in SF was fabulous on event day. We always appreciate the something for everyone vibe from Thread Show (see the Man Cave?), live models, awesome music and keeping the beer and wine flowing.

Now on to the piece de resistance, OFINA! We love hearing the comments as folks came by and shopped, "Look, this one you could use everyday!" "This one is a little funky!" "I like how this has just enough edge."

We've gotten some great feedback on our new rings, check them out!

It's Wedding Season!

It's wedding season...and wedding season means bridal shows!

We are preparing and creating samples for the Modern Bridal Faires in San Francisco on February 28 and in San Jose a month later on March 28. These shows are a lot of fun and usually have just about everything you could imagine for planning a wedding. Excited brides, mothers, sisters, friends and planners mill around looking for the perfect touches for their big day.

Ofina is going to be a vendor at this year's shows. We will have examples of our current collection, although we often create custom designs for brides, bridal parties and families. We are used to working within a range of styles and budgets. Click here for some recent pieces we've created for our brides.

We're really looking forward to the shows and are offering 40% off our jewelry for Modern Bridal Faire attendees. If brides-to-be aren't ready to make a decision on an exact piece that day, we are accepting $25 deposits to ensure a 40% discount on jewelry later.

Ofina on The Lazy Environmentalist

Ofina recently spent a day (or three) in the life of a Sundance Channel documentary. The Lazy Environmentalist invited us to be a part of their show and asked us to participate in an eco-friendly overhaul. Cameras and bright lights followed us through a typical day in our design studio in an attempt to show us that there are both environmentally sound *and* stylish ways to run our business.

Not only did we make energy saving and recycling changes in our store, Ofina was also challenged to create jewelry made from sustainable materials. We think we came up with some beautiful pieces:

We wrapped the filming with an open house (read: party) at the store. Customers and fellow designers were asked to review the jewelry. Their thoughts and our eco-friendly work will air on the Sundance Channel later this month. Stay tuned for exact dates and times!

Fashion Forward + Socially Conscious

Ofina is abuzz with activity!

We have been hard at work since last fall putting together a line for Eddie Bauer. This order has given Ofina an opportunity to work with The Andean Collection, a fair trade company that is both fashion-forward and socially conscious. To stay true to its ethical principles, we've gone to great lengths to research and source our materials and manufacturer.

The result: exotic necklaces designed by Ofina and crafted by Quichua woman in Ecuador who, through The Andean Collection, are paid fair wages for their work.

In Ecuador, the red acai and pambil palm necklaces hang precariously in one of the artisan's homes. The necklaces are also available in blue and green.

Here in San Francisco, this order has us celebrating a few firsts. For starters, we are thrilled to note that with 5,000 necklaces shipped nationwide, this Eddie Bauer order is our biggest ever. The boxes took over our store!

This project also gave us the unique opportunity to stretch our creativity, work with new people and exotic materials. We are excited to continue work with our new partners in Ecuador as we extend the Eddie Bauer line even further this spring.

Welcome to the Newly Relaunched Website

Thank you for taking the time to visit the website. It’s been awhile since the last update. Check back as we will be adding more styles and be sure to sign-up to be on our mailing list as we will be offering special deals.

In addition to the new website, Ofina has been busy opening up a new studio/boutique by the name of Covet in San Francisco. We collaborated with Frolick Jewelry (www.shopfrolick.com). Our official Grand Opening Party is on June 4, Thursday from 5-9pm. The party will include swag bags for the first 25, raffle drawings every hour, special savings, bellini bar, and oxygen facials.
